The region of Bordeaux is also home to Sainte-Émilion, which could be the oldest wine producing appelation in the region with history that dates back to the Romans.
The Bordeaux region has over 120,000 hectares of grapes, producing close to 900 million bottles of wine.
Originally Bordeaux was famed for its white wines with over 80% of the land dedicated to it. The transition to red wines came in the 1970’s.
